They showed me the camera video of my 1920s clay liner. Two cracked tiles I never would have known about.

    Karen B. West Hartford

Not a speck of soot on the rug. The tech even swept the hearth and the ash bucket.

    Tom D. Wethersfield

We had a raccoon family up there. They waited until the kits were out, then capped it the same week.

    Chimney Questions, Answered Straight

How often should my chimney be swept?

Have it inspected once a year. If you burn wood most nights in winter, plan on a sweep every year too. A fireplace you use a few times a season may go two years between sweeps.

What is the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 inspection?

A Level 1 checks everything we can see from the firebox, the attic and the roof. A Level 2 adds a camera run the full height of the flue and a video you keep. You need a Level 2 when you buy or sell a house, change fuel, or after a chimney fire.

    Is the sweep messy?

No. We lay drop cloths, seal the fireplace opening and run a HEPA vacuum the whole time. Most sweeps take about an hour and you won't need to clean up after us.

Do gas fireplaces need a sweep?

They don't build creosote, but they still need a yearly check. Nests, loose liner tiles and rust can block the flue and push carbon monoxide back into the house.

When is the best time to book?

Spring and summer. By October most of Greater Hartford wants a sweep the same week, and the wait can run a month. Masonry work also needs weather above 40 degrees.
