What Would My Weekly Check Be?

Mississippi comp pays about two thirds of your usual weekly pay while a doctor keeps you off work. Put in your numbers for a rough idea before you call.

Count overtime you usually work. Any format is fine, like 1,050 or $1050.

Mississippi skips the first 5 days unless you are out longer than 14 days. Then those days are paid too.

A rough estimate, not a promise of benefits. It uses a sample weekly cap of $600. Mississippi sets a new cap each year, and the insurer figures your real rate from your pay over the year before you got hurt. Longshore Act claims use different math. General information, not legal advice.

The Work We Know Best

Most of our clients build ships, move cargo or work a line. Tap any photo to see it larger.

Shipbuilders grinding a hull seam at a yard on the Pascagoula River

Shipyard and Longshore

Burns, falls, crush injuries and hearing loss from the yards on the river. Some of these claims fall under the federal Longshore Act. We handle both kinds.

Plant and Poultry Lines

Carpal tunnel, shoulder and back injuries from the same motion all day. These build slowly, and insurers like to call them age.

Denied Claims and Doctor Fights

Checks stopped, or the insurer's doctor says you are fine? Mississippi lets you pick your own doctor.

Settlements You Understand

Before you sign, we go through what you give up, line by line. Some rights end for good the day you sign.

Two Broussards, One Phone Number

Paul Broussard started taking comp cases in 1988, when half his clients built ships on the river. His daughter Denise joined him in 2012 after six years on the insurance side, so she knows how they think.

Whoever picks up is a lawyer. Keisha, our paralegal, chases your medical records and calls you every other Friday, news or not.

What Clients Tell Their Coworkers

4.9★★★★★142 Google reviews

Denise drove out to Vancleave after my shoulder surgery. She had my paperwork sorted before the coffee was done.

Tammy L.Vancleave

The insurance doctor said my back was fine. Paul told me I had the right to pick my own doctor. Nobody else had said that. I finally felt heard.

Marcus W.Moss Point

I worked the line in Gautier for 19 years. Keisha called me every other Friday like clockwork. I never had to chase anybody.

Questions From the Break Room

The ones we hear most, answered plainly. Yours is not on here? Call and ask.

Can I pick my own doctor?

Yes. In Mississippi you can choose one doctor to treat your injury, instead of the one the company sends you to. Changing doctors after that usually needs approval, so talk with us before you switch.

How soon do I need to report my injury?

Tell your supervisor right away, and put it in writing. Mississippi law asks for notice within 30 days, and you generally have two years to file a claim. If you already waited, call us anyway and we will look at what happened.

What if my claim is denied?

You can ask the Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission for a hearing. A judge there hears both sides and looks at your medical records. We prepare you for it and sit beside you.

What does a comp lawyer cost?

Nothing up front. Our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you, agreed in writing, and the Commission has to approve it. If we recover nothing, you owe us no fee.

Do shipyard and dock workers get Mississippi comp?

It depends on where you were hurt and what job you do. Many people who work on the water or at the docks fall under the federal Longshore Act instead, which has its own rules and pay rates. We sort that out on the first call.

We take cases across Jackson, Harrison and George counties. Pascagoula, Moss Point, Gautier, Ocean Springs, Escatawpa, Vancleave, Hurley, Wade, Biloxi, D'Iberville, Gulfport and Lucedale. Can't get to us? We come to you.
