Talking over an energy offer with a homeowner at her front door after a lake effect snow in Erie

Got an Offer at the Door? Check It First.

We hold electric and gas offers up against the utility's own price, for Erie homes and small shops. Then you decide.

Is This Offer Better Than Staying Put?

Type in what the offer says and your usage from last month's bill. We compare it with the utility's price to compare over the full term, and flag anything worth a second look.

At the door, did they

An estimate, not an offer. It assumes the utility price and your usage stay where they are, and that a variable rate lands at a sample 13.9 cents per kWh or 79 cents per Ccf after any intro. Real prices move with the market and the season. Taxes left out.

What Changes and What Does Not

The wires and pipes stay the same
Your local utility still delivers the power and gas, reads the meter, and comes out for outages and leaks.
    Only the energy price changes
A supplier sets the price of the energy itself. It shows up as its own lines on the same utility bill.
You can always compare it yourself
The state utility commission runs a shopping site with offers from licensed suppliers. We use it too.
    Variable rates can change
A variable rate can go up any month, and winter is when it tends to. Fixed rates hold for the term, and leaving early can cost a fee.

We Sit Down Where the Bill Gets Paid

A guy at the door had me half signed up. She showed me the rate went variable after three months. Glad I called.

    Doreen P. Millcreek

Told me to stay with the utility for gas this year. Nobody who gets paid on a switch ever said that to me before.

    Mike S. Harborcreek

Lined up three quotes for our diner and matched the term to our lease. Clear numbers, no pressure.

    Questions We Get Every Week

Someone knocked on my door with a lower rate. Is it real?

It might be. Plenty of door offers are legal. Ask for the rate in writing, the term, the fees and whether the price is fixed or variable. Never give your account number until you have read all of that. Then run it through the check above or call us.

What is the price to compare?

It is the price the utility charges for the power or gas itself if you do not pick a supplier. It is printed on your bill and changes a few times a year. An offer only lowers your bill if it beats that number.

Will my power or gas be less reliable with a supplier?

No. The local utility still delivers the power and gas, reads the meter and fixes outages and leaks. A supplier only sets the price of the energy itself.

What if my rate goes up after a few months?

That is how a variable rate works. It can change every month. If you are on one now, check how much it costs to leave. Many variable plans have no cancel fee, and we can help you switch back or pick a fixed plan.

    How do you get paid?

When we place you with a supplier, that supplier pays us a small fee. Checking an offer costs you nothing. If staying with the utility is the better deal, we will tell you so.

Can you promise I will save money?

No. Your cost depends on your usage, the weather and where prices go. We show an estimate based on your real bill, and the state utility commission runs a shopping site where you can compare offers yourself.

We help homes and businesses in Erie, Millcreek, Harborcreek, Lawrence Park, Fairview, Girard, North East, Edinboro, Waterford and Corry.
