Arizona courts decide parenting time by what is best for your child. This picture helps you plan and talk. It does not predict what a judge will order.

General information, not legal advice. Using this tool does not create an attorney client relationship. Arizona's child support math counts parenting days, so your schedule can change support too.
Parenting time is Arizona's name for when the kids are with each parent. It is separate from legal decision making, which covers big choices like school and doctors.
Under Arizona law, A.R.S. 25-403, a judge looks at things like each parent's bond with the child, how the child is doing at home and school, and whether each parent supports the other's relationship.

“Your kids will remember how this felt more than what the order said. So we keep it calm and we keep it about them.”

What Parents Ask Us First

What is legal decision making in Arizona?

It is Arizona's name for what many states call legal custody. It covers big choices like school, health care and religion. It can be joint or given to one parent.

How do Arizona courts decide parenting time?

By what is best for the child. Judges look at things like each parent's bond with the child, how the child is doing at home and school, and whether each parent supports the other's relationship.

Does the schedule change child support?

Yes. Arizona's child support guidelines count the days each parent has the children, so more parenting time can change the amount.

Can we change the order later?

Usually yes. In most cases you wait one year after the last order, unless a child is in danger. If both parents agree, it can happen sooner.

Do we have to go to court?

Not always. Many parents agree on a plan with our help or with a mediator, and the judge signs it.
