Most Meridian homes built for a tank have a half inch gas line. This size needs three quarter inch. Plan on $450 to $1,200 for the new line.

What a Week of Installs Looks Like

Tap any photo. Every job ends with a flushed line, a labeled shutoff and the old tank gone from your garage.

When a Tank Still Makes Sense

Tankless is not right for every house. Here is how we tell people on the first call.

Tankless fits if

  • You run out of hot water with two showers going
  • You plan to stay in the house five years or more
  • You want the garage floor space back
  • Your tank is past ten years old anyway

Stick with a tank if

  • Your panel is full and you have no gas
  • You may sell in the next year or two
  • Two people live there and hot water never runs out
  • The budget is tight this month. We will tell you so.

Three kids, two showers, and nobody gets the cold end anymore. They sized it for winter like they said.

Megan R. Eagle

Told me my gas line was too small before I paid a dime. The price at the end matched the quote.

Tyler S. Kuna

Came back a year later to flush it and showed me the scale they pulled out. Good people.

Questions We Get Every Week

How long does a tankless install take?

Most tank to tankless swaps take one day. We haul the old tank away when we leave. If the gas line needs to be bigger, plan on a second half day.

Will I ever run out of hot water?

Not while you stay under the flow the unit can heat. That is why we size it for your busiest morning in January, not for a warm day in July.

Does a tankless heater need a yearly flush?

Yes. Treasure Valley water is hard, and scale builds up inside the heater. A flush takes about an hour, and most makers ask for it to keep the warranty in force.

Is gas or electric cheaper to run here?

In most Meridian homes, gas costs less to run and can feed more showers at once. Electric costs less to put in if your panel has room. We show you both numbers before you pick.

Why does the calculator ask for more in winter?

Water comes into Treasure Valley homes at about 45 degrees in winter. The heater has to lift it 75 degrees to reach 120, so it can heat less water at once than it can in summer.
