Your Starting List

A starting point for this demo, not advice for your exact business. What you need and what it costs depend on your work, your contracts, the carrier and underwriting. We compare several carriers and go over it with you.

A crew member hurt on a Tuesday should not end the business by Friday.

That is the whole job of workers comp and liability. We make sure the limits match the work.

    Certificates the Same Day

A GC will not let you on the site without one. Send the request before 3 pm and it usually goes out that afternoon.

Additional insuredThe GC wants to be covered under your policy. We add it as an endorsement.
Waiver of subrogationYour carrier agrees not to go after the GC. Often in commercial contracts.
Higher limitsSome jobs ask for $2 million. An umbrella policy is the usual fix.
City licensingMany cities ask for proof of insurance before they license a contractor.

Serving Aurora, Denver, Centennial, Parker, Littleton, Englewood, Commerce City, Brighton and Castle Rock.

I needed a certificate with additional insured at 1 pm for a job the next morning. It was in the GC's inbox by 3.

    Luis A. Aurora

She caught that my trailer and mowers were not covered on the road. Fixed it the same week.

    Brandon H. Parker

Moved our comp and auto over. Same coverage, and someone actually picks up the phone.

    Questions Owners Ask

Do I need workers comp if I only have one employee?

In Colorado, yes. Once you have one employee, even part time, you need workers comp. Owners can usually leave themselves off the policy. Calling a helper a 1099 contractor does not always get you out of it, so ask us before you hire.

Does my personal auto policy cover my work truck?

Often not. Many personal policies exclude a truck used mostly for business, hauling a trailer of equipment, or one titled to your company. If a crew member drives, or the truck carries your logo, it is time to talk about commercial auto.

What is a certificate of insurance?

It is a one page form that shows your coverage and limits to a general contractor, a property manager or a city. It does not add coverage by itself. If a contract asks to be an additional insured, that has to be added to the policy too, and we do both.

How fast can I get a certificate for a job?

Most requests that come in before 3 pm go out the same business day. Send us the name and address the GC wants on it and any contract wording about additional insured or waiver of subrogation.

    What is inland marine coverage?

It is the odd name for coverage on tools and equipment that move around, like a trailer of mowers or a truck full of tools. A normal property policy usually only covers things at your shop. This covers them on the job site and on the road.
