Will pet insurance pay for a problem my pet already has?
Usually not. Most plans leave out pre-existing conditions, meaning anything your pet showed signs of before the policy started or during the waiting period. Some plans will cover a curable condition later if it has been symptom free for a set time. That is why it pays to start while your pet is young and healthy.
How long are the waiting periods?
It depends on the insurer. Accidents are often covered after a few days. Illnesses often start after about 14 days. Some plans wait six months or more for knee ligament and hip problems. We show you the waiting periods for each plan side by side.
Do I pay the vet first?
Most of the time, yes. You pay the vet, send in the invoice, and the insurer pays you back. Some insurers can pay certain vets directly. If a big bill lands before the money comes back, we can walk you through payment options.
Is a wellness plan worth it?
It depends on your habits. A wellness add on pays a set amount toward checkups, shots and dental cleanings. If you would do those anyway, it can about break even. It is not insurance for a big surprise, so it does not replace an accident and illness plan.
Do you sell one company's plans?
No. We show you plans from several pet insurers and explain the differences in plain words. Coverage, price and approval are set by each insurer.
