Straight Talk Before You Buy Foam

Foam is not right for every house.
If your ducts run under the floor and the attic is just empty space, blown in on the attic floor does the job for about a third of the price. We will say so.
Gas appliances in the attic need a check.
Foaming the roof deck closes the attic up. A gas furnace or water heater up there needs sealed combustion or fresh air brought in. We look before we price it.
Humidity is the Gulf Coast problem.
A sealed attic has to be part of the house the AC dries. We check that a supply or return reaches it, or we add one.
You get the numbers in writing.
Depth, R value, foam type and every add on are on the sheet you sign. No surprise lines on the day.

What Mobile Folks Tell Us After a Summer

    4.8★★★★★212 Google reviews

Our back bedroom used to sit at 82 all August. After they foamed the roof deck it tracks the thermostat. The AC finally shuts off in the afternoon.

    Denise R., Daphne

They told me foam was more than I needed and blew in the attic instead. Done by lunch.

    Walter H., Semmes

Found a soft spot in the roof deck and made us fix it first. Glad they did.

What is the difference between open cell and closed cell foam?

Open cell is soft and spongy, about R 3.7 an inch, and it is what we spray on most roof decks here. Closed cell is hard and dense, about R 6.5 an inch, and it blocks water vapor. We use closed cell under raised floors and on walls that get wet.

Do we have to leave the house while you spray?

Yes. Everyone, pets too, stays out while we spray and for about 24 hours after, with fans running. The foam maker sets the exact time, and we hand you their sheet before the job.

Will foam hide a roof leak?

It can, which is why we look at the roof deck first. If we see stains, soft wood or daylight, we tell you and you get the roof fixed before we spray. We do not foam over a known leak.

Do you take the old insulation out?

When we foam the roof deck, old batts on the attic floor can stay, unless they are wet or full of rodent mess. Then we vacuum them out, and that line is on the price sheet. For blown in jobs we add on top of what is there after we seal the gaps.

How long does a job take?

A blown in attic is about half a day. Foaming the roof deck on a 1,800 square foot house is usually one long day. Crawlspace foam adds a few hours.
