Back at the Dealer Again?

What we do

If your car keeps going back for the same problem, California lemon law may make the maker buy it back or replace it. The first call is free.

When a California lemon case succeeds, the maker pays the lawyer.

Not you. We put fees in writing before you sign.

Is My Car a Lemon?

Fill it out like the slip you get at the service desk. The check reads your numbers against the tests in California's lemon law. Nothing leaves this page.

Add up every visit, any problem.
Could it cause a crash or a fire?
Brakes, steering, stalling, airbags and fires count as safety problems.

Your repair orders show the dates, the miles and how long the car sat. Keep every one, even the ones that say no problem found.

This is general information, not legal advice. Using this check does not create an attorney client relationship. It reads only what you type. Every car and every case is different.

    We Read the Slips First

"The dealer writes down more than you think. The answer is often in the repair orders."

Theo Brandt, lemon law attorney. He grew up in Bixby Knolls and worked a dealer service drive before law school.

We only take lemon and car warranty cases. We deal with the maker and its lawyers, so you do not have to argue with the dealer again.

Four visits for the same shudder. Theo looked at my slips for ten minutes and knew what to ask for. He kept me posted every week.

    Priya S. Lakewood

I thought I was too far past the 18 months. I was wrong about that. They explained it in plain English.

    Marco D. Signal Hill

My EV kept losing charge. They told me what to write to the maker and handled every call after that.

    Lemon Law Questions

The ones people ask us before they hang up the phone.

What makes a car a lemon in California?

A new car, or a used car still under the maker's warranty, with a problem the dealer could not fix after a fair number of tries. The law looks at repair visits, days in the shop and how serious the problem is.

Do I have to pay you?

In California, when a lemon case succeeds, the law makes the maker pay the attorney fees. We explain how fees and costs work in writing before you sign anything.

    Does a used car count?

It can, if it was sold with the maker's new car warranty still running, or with a certified used warranty from the maker. A car with only a dealer warranty follows different rules.

What if I am past 18 months or 18,000 miles?

You can still have a case. The 18 month or 18,000 mile window is a shortcut in the law, not the only way in. Plenty of strong cases start later.

    What should I keep?

Every repair order, even the ones that say no problem found. Your purchase or lease contract. Texts and emails with the dealer. A short log of what happened and when.

Can I keep driving the car?

In most cases, yes, if it is safe. If the problem affects the brakes, the steering or makes the car stall, stop driving it and tell the dealer and the maker in writing.
