Every Fee on Your Card Statement, in Plain Words

We sit down with Whatcom County shop owners, read the statement line by line, and write down what each fee costs you in a year.

Decode My Statement

What Is Each Line Costing You?

Use last month's statement. Put in the three totals up top, then check off the fee lines you can find. We add them up and tell you which ones people most often get dropped.

    Counters, Stalls and Boatyards

Most of our shops take cards in more than one place. We set that up so it all lands on one statement you can read.

    Trades in the Field

Boatyards, mechanics and contractors taking payment on the job.

A market vendor handing a card reader to a customer under a rainy canopy

    Markets and Pop Ups

Readers that work on a phone signal in the rain.

    Shop Counters

Registers that fit the shop you already have.

    No Lease Pressure

We would rather you buy a reader outright. We show both prices side by side so you can pick.

    Questions Owners Ask

    What is an effective rate?

It is every processing fee on your statement added up, divided by your card sales for the month. It is the one number that lets you compare two statements fairly, no matter how each one words its fees.

Why am I paying a PCI non-compliance fee?

Usually because a short yearly security questionnaire was never filled out. Once it is done and accepted, that fee normally stops. We walk you through it, and it takes about half an hour for most small shops.

Can I get out of my terminal lease?

Often not without paying. Many terminal leases run 48 months and cannot be canceled, even if you change processors. Read the lease itself before you switch anything, and we will read it with you.

Can I pass card fees on to customers?

Sometimes. Surcharge and cash discount rules depend on your state and the card networks, and debit cards are handled differently. Get the rules in writing from your processor before you add a charge at the register.

    How do you get paid?

We are an independent sales agent. If you move your processing through one of our partners, they pay us a share of the fees. Reading your statement costs nothing, and sometimes the best answer is to call your current processor and ask for a better rate.

We meet owners in Bellingham, Fairhaven, Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Everson, Sumas, Sedro-Woolley, Burlington, Mount Vernon and Anacortes.
