Septic Questions We Get
How often should a septic tank be pumped?
Most homes need it every three to five years. A small tank with a big family can need it every two years. A garbage disposal adds a lot of solids and shortens the time. The calculator above works it out for your house.
Do I need to be home when you pump?
No. Tell us where the lid is, or that you do not know, and leave the gate open. We text you a photo of the open tank and a short report when we are done.
What if nobody knows where the tank is?
We find it. We check the county permit, follow the main line out from the house with a probe rod, and dig up the lid. If it is deep, we can add a riser so next time the lid is right at the grass.
Is it safe to drive on the drain field?
No. Keep cars, trailers, horses and cattle off it. The weight crushes the pipes and packs the soil so water cannot soak in. Grass is the best cover.
Can Kentucky clay cause septic problems?
Yes. Heavy clay drains slowly, so drain fields here fill up faster in wet springs. Pumping on time keeps solids from getting into the field, which is the most costly part to fix.
