Payback is the years until your savings add up to what you paid. It assumes power rates rise 3 percent a year and panels lose half a percent a year.
About the federal tax credit. The 30 percent credit for homeowners who buy solar ended for systems paid for after 2025. Some leases still include a credit the installer claims. We will show you both ways to pay and you can ask your tax preparer.

Straight Answers

Is there still a federal tax credit for solar?

Not for homeowners who buy a system now. The 30 percent credit for home solar ended for systems paid for after 2025. Some leases and power purchase plans still carry a credit that the installer claims. Ask your tax preparer about your own case.

I have SMUD. Does solar still make sense?

It can, but the payback is longer than with PG&E because SMUD power costs less. Using more of your power during the day, or adding a battery, helps. The calculator above shows both so you can compare.

How long does install take?

The work on your roof takes one or two days. Permits and the utility sign off take most of the time. Plan on about six to ten weeks from signing to turning it on.

Will panels hurt my roof?

Not when they are put on right. Every mount is flashed and sealed into the roof. If your roof has less than about ten years left, we will tell you before we start.

Can you add an EV charger at the same time?

Yes. Our electricians put in Level 2 chargers and can upgrade your main panel if it needs more room. Doing it with solar saves a second permit trip.
