Solar and battery backup, Austin and the Hill Country

When the Grid Goes Dark, Your House Doesn't.

We install home batteries and solar that switch on the moment the power drops. The fridge stays cold, the well keeps pumping and the CPAP keeps running. No generator noise, no gas cans.

How Many Batteries Do You Need?

Turn on what has to keep running during an outage. The sizer adds up the power, then tells you how many batteries it takes. It is a starting point. We check your panel and your bills before we give a price.

Where the Power Goes kWh per day

Estimates only. Based on a typical 13.5 kWh wall battery that runs about 5 kW at once, and about 20 kWh a day from solar in mixed weather. Your real loads and your roof change the answer.

Lights On While the Street Is Dark

Out past the city, the lines are long and the fixes take time. Ice storms, spring hail and summer heat all knock power out. We plan backup around how you really live.

  • Keep the well pump running so you still have water.
  • Run the gas furnace fan in a freeze so the pipes stay warm.
  • Keep medical gear like a CPAP or oxygen machine going all night.
  • Check it all from your phone, even when you are away.

Power went out for 30 hours in the ice storm. We had water from the well, heat from the furnace fan and the fridge never warmed up.

Brian S. Dripping Springs

My husband uses a CPAP. I used to lie awake when storms rolled through. Now the lights do not even flicker.

Rosa M. Buda

They talked me out of a third battery and showed me why. Two has been plenty.

Backup Questions

Can a battery run my whole house?

It can, but most people do not need that. Central AC and electric heat use far more than everything else. Picking what matters, like the fridge, the well pump and a room or two of heat or cooling, keeps the cost down.

Will the batteries charge back up during a long outage?

Yes, if you have solar. The panels refill the batteries each day the sun is out. On cloudy days or in snow they refill slowly, so we size for that.

Battery or generator?

A battery is quiet, needs no fuel and switches over in a split second. A standby generator runs longer in a week of bad weather. Some of our Hill Country customers have both. We install either one and will tell you which fits.

Does it work if I am on a well?

Yes. Well pumps pull a big jolt of power when they start. We size the batteries for that jolt and often add a soft starter so the pump starts gently.

How long does install take?

Batteries alone take one day. Solar with batteries takes two to four days on site. Permits and the utility sign off add a few weeks.

Do you work with Austin Energy and Pedernales?

Yes. We handle the paperwork with Austin Energy, Pedernales Electric and the other co ops around here, and we know what each one asks for.
