Fair Questions

Can't I do all of this myself on StudentAid.gov?

Yes. Every federal program on this page is free, and you can apply for all of them yourself on StudentAid.gov. People come to us when the forms stall, when an employer won't certify, or when they want someone to check their count of payments.

Are you part of the Department of Education?

No. We are a private office on Lark Street. We are not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education or with any loan servicer. We can't change your loans. We help you use the programs that already exist.

Does my job count for Public Service Loan Forgiveness?

It counts if you work full time for a government employer or a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Public schools, SUNY, state and city agencies and most nonprofit hospitals qualify. Check your employer with the PSLF Help Tool on StudentAid.gov.

Do you charge before you help?

No. There are no upfront fees. The plan review is a flat fee paid after the meeting, only if you found it useful. We never ask for your StudentAid.gov password.

The rules keep changing. How do you keep up?

Plan names and rules changed in 2025 and 2026, and they may change again. We check StudentAid.gov every week and tell you what we know and what is still unsettled. We don't guess.
