Your data

Your device stays in a locked cabinet overnight. We never copy your files unless you ask us to, and you can wipe it with us before we start.

We will never call you first. Real companies do not ask for gift cards, and no one from Apple or Microsoft calls to say your computer is infected.

Prices are for this sample shop. A live site shows your real prices. Checking a device in the shop is free.

We Will Never Call You First

Tech support scams hit Vermont seniors every week. A popup or a phone call says your computer is infected, then asks for money. Here is how to spot one.

If you already paid or let someone in, call your bank first, then call us. We will help you clean up, for free if it happened this week.

  • Real companies do not ask for gift cards. Not Apple, not Microsoft, not your bank, and not us. Gift card payment is always a scam.
  • Popups with a phone number are fake.Your computer does not show a number to call. Close the browser or hold the power button.
  • Never let a stranger connect to your computer. If a caller asks you to install a program so they can help, hang up.
  • We will never call you first. If someone says they are from Pine Street Tech Help and calls out of the blue, hang up and call us back at (802) 555-0162.
Scammers ask you to install a remote access app. It lets them see your screen and move your mouse, and get into your bank.

Dropped my phone on Church Street at lunch. New screen by 2:30, and they showed me the old one so I knew it was really done.

Questions We Hear a Lot

Will I lose my photos and data?

Screen and battery repairs do not touch your data. For bigger repairs, we try to save your photos and files first and tell you before we do anything that could erase them.

Do you really come to my house?

Yes. Home visits are $79 for the first hour anywhere in Chittenden County. Most visits are for setting up a new phone or tablet, fixing printers and Wi Fi, video calls with family, and cleaning up scam popups.

A popup says my computer is infected and to call a number. What do I do?

Do not call the number and do not let anyone connect to your computer. Close the browser, or hold the power button to turn it off. Then call us. Real companies never ask you to pay with gift cards.

Is it worth fixing an old laptop?

Often yes. A new battery or a solid state drive can make a five year old laptop feel new for far less than a new one. If it is not worth it, we will tell you, and help you move your files to a new one.

Do you charge to look at it?

Checking a device in the shop is free. We call you with the price before we start, and nothing is fixed until you say yes.
