What Your First Session Is Like

You come in, or open a link at home. It lasts 50 minutes. Your therapist asks what brings you in, what you hope changes, and a bit about your life. You share only what you want to.

Near the end, you both talk about whether it feels like a fit and how often to meet. Most people start with once a week. You can ask anything, including how they work and what they charge.

You do not need the right words. Saying "I am not sure where to start" is a fine place to start.

If it is not a fit, tell us. We will match you with someone else in the practice. No hard feelings, and no need to explain.

The front desk asked a few questions and matched me with someone who just got it. I did not have to tell my story five times.

Hannah R. Louisville

We were nervous about couples therapy. Marcus kept it calm and fair to both of us, and we could do evenings.

Chris and Dev L. Lafayette

My son actually likes going. The walk and talk sessions made it feel less like a big deal to him.

Questions People Ask Before They Call

Do you take insurance?

Most of our therapists are in network with Anthem, Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare. We can also give you a receipt for out of network benefits. A few spots each month are on a sliding scale. We check your plan before the first visit so there are no surprises.

What if I do not click with my therapist?

That happens, and it is fine to say so. Tell your therapist or the front desk and we will match you with someone else in the practice. Nobody takes it personally, and you do not have to explain.

How soon can I be seen?

Most new clients have a first session within one to two weeks. Evening spots fill first. If you need to talk to someone sooner, call or text 988 any time.

Is video therapy as good as in person?

For many people it works well, and it saves the drive. Some people like the room better. You can switch between the two with most of our therapists. You need to be in Colorado during a video session.

Is what I say kept private?

Yes. What you say in session stays between you and your therapist, with a few legal limits, like a risk of serious harm. Your therapist explains those limits in the first session. For teens, we talk with the family about what gets shared before we start.

Clients come to us from Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, Longmont, Gunbarrel, Niwot, Nederland and Erie, and by video from anywhere in Colorado.
