Legs That Ache by Supper Are Worth a Look

Ultrasound checks and gentle treatment for varicose and spider veins, right here in Bowling Green.

Two Minute Leg Check

Tick what you notice most days. You see whether an ultrasound makes sense, and which treatments may come up.

Sudden painful swelling in one leg is not a clinic visit. If one leg swells fast, turns warm or red, or you feel chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911 or go to the ER right away. It can be a blood clot.

Treatments that may come up
  • Compression stockings
  • Sclerotherapy
  • Vein ablation
  • Small vein removal

Insurance often covers treatment when symptoms are written down at your visits and compression stockings were tried first.

Book an Ultrasound Visit

General information, not a diagnosis. Our doctor decides after an exam and ultrasound. Results vary.

Treatments, Explained Plainly

Duplex Ultrasound

The first step for almost everyone. Warm gel, a wand on your leg, and we watch the blood move on the screen.

About 45 minutes. No needles.

Vein Ablation

A thin tube heats the leaky vein from the inside so it closes. Blood reroutes to healthy veins.

Under an hour. Walk out the same day.

Sclerotherapy

Tiny shots of medicine into spider veins and small varicose veins. They fade over a few weeks.

About 30 minutes. Often 2 or 3 visits.

Compression Stockings

Snug stockings that help blood move up. We measure and fit you here, and show you how to get them on.

Fitted in one visit.

An ultrasound that shows which way blood flows. It tells us if the valves in your veins let blood slip back down.
Also called radiofrequency or laser ablation. It is done with numbing medicine, not general anesthesia.
Spider vein work is usually cosmetic, so insurance often does not pay for it. We tell you the price first.

What Insurance Usually Asks For

Nurses, teachers, factory crews and anyone on their feet all day see us most. If that is you, write things down now. It helps your claim later.

  • Symptoms noted at a doctor visit, like aching, swelling or skin changes
  • A trial of prescription compression stockings, often several weeks
  • An ultrasound that shows valves letting blood flow backward

We handle the paperwork and call you before anything is billed. Medicare and most Kentucky plans are accepted on the live site list.

After ablation, we ask you to walk the same day. Most people are back on the greenway within the week.

In and out before lunch, and they had me walking the parking lot after. My ankle swelling is way down.

Questions People Ask Us

Are varicose veins just cosmetic?

Not always. Bulging veins often come from valves that no longer close, so blood pools in the legs. That can cause aching, swelling and skin changes over time. An ultrasound shows whether that is happening.

Will insurance pay for vein treatment?

Often, when there are symptoms and the ultrasound shows valve problems. Most plans want notes from your visits and a trial of compression stockings first, often several weeks. Spider vein treatment is usually cosmetic and not covered.

Does vein ablation hurt?

We numb the leg along the vein, so most people feel pressure and a little warmth. It takes under an hour, and you walk out afterward. Some soreness for a few days is common.

When should I go to the ER instead?

Go to the emergency room or call 911 for sudden painful swelling in one leg, a leg that turns warm and red, or any chest pain or trouble breathing. Those can be signs of a blood clot and need care right away.

Do I need a referral?

Most patients do not. Some insurance plans ask for one. We check your plan when you call and tell you before your visit.
