Quick Answer
A code is a clue, not an answer. I scan it, test the part it points to, and tell you what the car really needs. The diagnostic is $125 and half of it comes off if I do the repair.
What a Code Really Tells You
A parts store reader gives you a code like P0301. That only says which system saw a problem. It does not say which part failed. I take the next step and test the coil, the plug, the sensor or the wiring until the cause is found. That's how you avoid buying parts you didn't need.
A Flashing Light Is Different
A steady light means get it checked soon. A flashing light usually means a misfire that can overheat the catalytic converter. If yours is flashing, park it and call me. I'll come to where it sits.
What the $125 Covers
I come to your home or job, scan every module, check freeze frame data and test the likely cause. You get a plain answer and a price before any repair. If I do the repair, half of the $125 comes off the bill.
